Jim "Jimbo" Barrett, facing Elizabeth Mimms in ping pong (which he would proceed to lose)

Jim "Jimbo" Barrett (born March 17, 1988, in Green Bay, Wisconsin) is one of the most arrogant, cocky gamers around the Goldeneye and Mario Kart 64 forums. He immediately gained infamy at the start of his career (November 2001), due to his arrogance and claiming of obviously fake times, such as Caverns Agent 1:02 at age 13. After being banned from The Elite in mid 2002, Jimbo cleaned up his act, and in July 2003 Bunker 1 00A 1:09 (then tying a Bosshardt-set untied of 2 seconds), marking the beginning of the Jimbo that exists today. In February 2004, he reached the podium of GoldenEye 007 and stayed there for exactly one year. Although Jim has slowed down dramatically from his glory days, Jim still gets a new time occasionally; and his accomplishments include (but are not limited to):

  • Formerly highest ranked player without using dot-on-screen (title now held by Goose)
  • Still being ranked in the top 20 out of 250+ in all 8 possible rankings
  • 3 untied world records
  • Being a proof moderator
  • Holding a podium position for a full calendar year (February 2004 to February 2005)
  • Winning the first ever national Goldeneye multiplayer tournament in Virginia August 2007
  • Being the first person to achieve a world record in any game at a Virginia meet
  • Sparking quite possibly the biggest proof controversy the GE elite has ever seen

Jim Barrett, now age 21, lives a very independent, quiet life. Jim resides in a Green Bay Wisconsin suburb, and has a full time job. Jim checks the elite boards every day, visits the elite chat nearly every day, and even visits Ngamer. In December 2006, Jim was involved in one of the great pioneering wonders of the elite, the Grand National Championship! Jimbo's most recent Archives times rank him ahead of arch-nemesis Trent Hovis for the first time since 2006.

Reasons why you should vote Jimbo in any contest:

  • Since August 2007, Jimbo has lost 70 lbs, mostly due to not drinking soda at the rate he once did.
  • Owns his own car, living quarters, TV, laptop, everything.
  • Works full time and leads a responsible, clean life.
  • Pretty funny guy, good interests, gets along with the elite well.
  • One of the best drummers around.

Reasons why you shouldn't vote Jimbo, or talk to him:

  • Thinks he's the greatest multiplayer in the world.
  • Thinks people care that he lost a ton of weight.
  • Bought a 1986 Chevy Celebrity sight-on-seen out of Missouri without ever test driving it.
  • Lives within walking distance of a Legend, making his coolness merely a product of a good team.

Weight Loss August 2007 to Present

Jimbo increasing his lifespan by about 12 years

Something Jim has been anticipating for the last few months or so, but as of 5/26/2008 Jim weighs 200 lbs, marking a total of 70 lbs lost since July 2006. It was in August 2007 that Jim finally decided to go on a real diet. This is huge for Jim because this was Jim's original goal and at first he never thought he'd even make 220, but there was a time just after Superbowl Sunday that things became easier. Here is a rough timeline of time/weight if one is curious as to when the last time Jimbo appeared to you...

  • High school through August 2006 - 270 lbs
  • August 2007 - 260 lbs
  • Superbowl Sunday (February 2008) - 248 lbs
  • March 24, 2008 - 219.99 lbs
  • April 20, 2008 - 210 lbs
  • May 26, 2008 - 200 lbs!!!

Archives Agent 0:16 Controversy

Even though 0:16 sucks and 30+ people have it, you'd best tape your world records no matter how easy they are. Stupid Wouter.

On August 17, 2008, Jimbo had finally achieved the world record of 0:16 on Archives A after many hours of playing in Bumpass VA. Most, if not everyone at the meet had seen Jimbo play and fail a few 0:16s prior to the completed run that night. Jimbo knowingly played without taping, as most were convinced that this world record would not require video proof is a proof moderator was present. When 0:16 occured, many were watching (including Jon Barber) and had verified that the run was legit and met all elite requirements. (no cheating devices, no cheats, etc). Many of the attendees of Jimbo's session were world-known players such as Patrik Nilsson, Eddie Lovins, Jon Barber, Josh Layne, etc. When the news had gotten to the Goldeneye rankings moderators that 0:16 was not captured on tape, a split was created between the moderators (such as Henning Blom, and Wouter Jansen) vs the rest of the elite who believed 0:16 was fine as-is, or were OK with picture proof that was provided by Jimbo. (2 images exist, one of flash ON, and one of flash OFF to show the player surroundings). 0:16 was ultimately accepted, but only for a short period, as Jimbo failed to provide a taped 0:16 within the month it was shown on the rankings; resulting in his Archives A time to be back-rolled to 0:17.

On December 15, 2008, Jim's 0:16 was finally added to the Goldeneye Elite rankings after Jon Barber made the final decision as administrator to allow the time. The addition of the time has split the community, and as a result, former updater Wouter Jansen has resigned as rankings updater in favor of Tyler "Thiradell" Wishall.

Carolina Panthers @ Green Bay Packers: QB's first Packers game

This was probably the best game Josh could have gone for his first game at Lambeau, too bad the Packers defense gave up the big play at the end and lost 35-31.

Josh Lay, the elite's token gambler and sports bettor, had shown a previous interest in going to any game at Lambeau Field. The opportunity had arisen for Josh to snag the extra ticket that Jim had for the Panthers @ Packers game; and on November 29, the Philadelphia-suburb native flew into Green Bay for the sports experience of a lifetime. Jim and Josh stopped at Curly's Pub, the Packers Pro Shop, and got a good look at Lambeau Field the day before the game itself so Josh could soak in more of the game-time experience on that Sunday. The game itself was wild; Josh and Jim were seated on the 7th row right next to the south end zone! Momentum was swung many times, ultimately in Carolina's favor; and after Green Bay took the lead late in the 4th quarter, Steve Smith made a leaping grab to snag Jake Delhomme's desperation heave down to the 1 yard line. Green Bay would lose 35-31. Not only did Josh get to see his first Packers game, but he also starred in the 2008 version of the Grand National Championship: Sumo Edition as we all made a trip to Jon Barber's house that day.
