Carathorn

Hugo "Carathorn" van der Wolk has been playing Perfect Dark ever since the release of the game, and is still speedrunning and improving his times as of today.
He has changed his name to Carathorn from Hugo Boss, as he wanted to use an overall 'game name', which he has used in other games like Imperial Conflict as well.

Joining "The Elite"

Carathorn had decided to join in April 2005, as Hugo Boss. In October 2006 he rejoined as Carathorn. However, he has been speedrunning before his joining for several years already. When Carathorn joined The Elite he was ranked low in time, because he had not played Perfect Agent yet. Though his Agent and Special Agent times were more than good.

Getting to the top 100

Carathorn used to only play Agent and Special Agent during the years he had owned Perfect Dark. Therefore some of his Perfect Agent times were a disaster. In September 2006 he decided to improve some of these 20+ minutes times, as the only way to really improve in the Perfect Dark rankings was to play this difficulty. By doing this, he has improven his total time with more than an hour. By the time all these 'disasters-times' were gone, Carathorn managed to get into the top 100 time rankings, by completing Maian SOS Perfect Agent in 2:45. This achievement was done on November 9th 2006. Almost 4 months later, on March 7th, Carathorn managed to get into the top 100 in points as well.

2006/2007/2008

From the time Carathorn rejoined The Elite, he has almost improved all his times. During the time he rejoined the elite and now Carathorn has really improved himself, as can be seen by the PRs he has gotten lately. WAR! Agent 0:26, Villa Agent 1:10 are examples. Moreover, he holds 5 World Records as of now, with his latest Chicago Agent 0:15 achieved on February 29th 2008. He is still continuing with playing Perfect Dark and will keep on improving his times. Especially in the so called Perfect Dark Nights with Red Bull his amount of new PRs are amazing. In August 2007, Carathorn has received the NTSC version of Perfect Dark and got 14 PRs in the next 2 days. He has steadily gained rankings ever since. On the 29th of February Carathorn has announced his unhoard with 17 PRs. With this unhoard he cut off 4 minutes of his Total Time and gained more than 700 points. As of now, Carathorn is ranked 26th in Points and 23th in Time on the Perfect Dark Rankings and climbing!

Other activities

Hugo "Carathorn" van der Wolk is also involved in the Project The Elite's Anthem where he will compose a song with other Eliters. This is described by Carathorn as follows: "We compose, write, record and totally produce our own Anthem." When this Anthem will be finished, is not known yet. He also made digital versions of all Red Bull's videos and has been involved in Video Proof Analyzing as a semi-professional video editor.

Other Games

Carathorn is not only skilled at Perfect Dark, but is a top player in almost every game he plays seriously. For example, he has made some awesome movies of Super Monkey Ball, which can be found at the SMB Theatre.
Carathorn is also a big fan of Super Mario, in which he owns almost every game from the NES to the N64. Moreover, games like Crysis, Heroes of Might and Magic III & V, Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 and Diddy Kong Racing are among one of the favourite games of Carathorn.

Personal Life

In his free time, Hugo van der Wolk has been making music since he was 6 years old. He invests a lot of time in becoming a fulltime musician, and his lastest project is an Electro/Minimal Live-Act together with DJ Roel H (see external links). Hugo lives in Haarlem, a city next to Amsterdam, and is currently following the course "International Music Management" at the university of Haarlem.
