William "shadow" Lacey is a Mario Kart 64 player, staff member, and popular personality in the kart community, finishing 3rd in the Karter Contest 2004. According to his copy of Websters Dictionary, he is described as "a handsome and talented young fellow with a flair for words. Quick to laugh, slow to anger. A lady's man. A man for every occasion and with an intellect to match". He is a vetaran in the community, but is still active on the forum, and is a moderator.
Williams main claim-to-fame was being the first player to reach the vaunted God rank in MK64. He also set a DK 3lap WR that was extremely fast for its time, more than 1.5 seconds ahead of 2nd place. He promptly typed up a detailed strategy and later released a video. His other claim-to-fame was his MK64 strategy pages, that described his preferred routes for the non-shortcut races. The strategies were littered with wit and humour, and were an interesting read even for those who could not benefit from their tactics. Unfortunately, William never managed to be world champion, despite being ranked at the very top for years. He was ranked 2nd behind Sami Cetin for some time, and while he eventually overcame Sami, it was not until after Michael Jongerius had taken the top spot.
He later had a much shorter career in the early days of Mario Kart: Double Dash!!, where he used to have a fairly decent rank but has since fallen all the way down to 190th.
As a staff member, William created MK64's profiles, times viewer and several interesting extras, such as the "Super Duper Magical Matchup Program Deluxe". William is highly respected in the kart community, for both his karting achievements, programming contributions and personality (he has a degree in Maths, so he knows something about everything).
One of the most infamous kart in-jokes originated with William posting a picture of himself dresses as a maid, nicknamed Susan. The photo was supposedly a Halloween cross-dressing costume, complete with wig, laced dress, dust wand, apron, and an enigmatic pout. But he got more than he bargained for, because Susan's legacy continues even today, and the joke occasionally pops up in conversation behind his back.
