Chris Balch joined the SMK players' site in Fall of 2003. At the beginning of 2004, he made himself famous by hitting his first WR's (I think) on KB1, simultaneously being the first person to break the 50 seconds barrier on the 5-lap. In 2005, after many months of steady progression (some could say he was, during that period, the NTSC equivalent of Karel), he became NTSC world champion on the players' site, following Jamie White's reign and preceding that of Joe Bernier. Chris is also the player who holds the most NTSC Non-NBT WR's at the moment.

One of his most notable contributions to the community would be the creation of an ftp server, where he allows many karters to upload their own time trial videos. His SMK videos web site is a must for players too, as it sorts virtually all reperiorated time trial vids into a track-by-track comprehensive list.

Outside of kart, Chris runs a one-man musical band, named Time of Death. More information can be found on http://www.timeofdeath.net , as well as several recordings.
