My name is Eise Smit. I am 24 years old and currently living in Jönköping, Sweden with my girlfriend. My biggest interests are reading (fantasy books, stories written by known atheists around the world), Jogging, World of Warcraft and games/computer life in general. I also like to stay updated with the whole e-sport scene. Often you can catch me watching Starcraft, Warcraft 3, World of Warcraft arena matches on gotfrag tv or some other online television station which broadcastst it. I have played all these games but I would not call myself an exceptional gamer in any of those games. I would clasify myself as an all-round gamer and a bad loser (better now though).

I grew up in a very small village called Oosternieland. Which is up north in the Netherlands. The village has around 103 people living in it. I was living there for about 18 years with my two parents Eise Pieter Smit and Henny Ruiter and my two sisters Cindy and Monique and my youngest brother Dennis. I spend most my childhood doing what kids at my age “normally”do, playing outside no matter what the weather was. Playing everything ranging from dressing up like a ninja and soldier to playing Luke Skywalker from Star Wars. It were easy and good times.

Some noticable events are that I burned my hand when I was very young. Apparently I decided that is was a good idea to put my hand in a fire.

Another event during my elementary school period involved me greatly injuring my foot, pools of blood anywhere and leaving a scar from the right side of my foot all the way over to my left side. For the rest my childhood was reasonable uneventfull. Nothing broken ever.

After I finished “Basisschool” I was 12 years old and was going to get started on high school. I was pretty nervous the first day and it was in this school I found out how mean kids can get. Some people kept offering me cigarettes but I kept refusing since it still is a disgusting habit. I never made many friends during this time. But I made it through.

When I was about 15/16 my uncle had a friend who owned a Nintendo 64. Of course we had to come and try it out. He had it as one of the firsts in our neighbourhood and I did not think too much of it. He had a few games to show us, one of those was Goldeneye. Since he already had a lot of experience with the Nintendo 64 he explained us how the game worked. He explained how 1.2 is a better control style than the basic 1.1 since it is much easier to aim with and how it makes strafing so much easier. He regonized the control style from the game called “Turok”. When he left he  brought the Nintendo back to his house. A few weeks later my uncle had purchased a Nintendo 64 and I was dying to try it out. He was finishing up the single player levels when we decided to play some Multiplayer. I was sucked into it and I played it almost every night with my uncle and some of our friends. He was a very bad loser and would repeatetly throw controllers through the room (he even kicked a table in half) when I was on a killing spree. As you can understand it was hard to control my laughter.

During this time I also got some world records in Goldeneye 64 which I had send in to Wes Mckinney. He however did not take my claims seriously since they were a bit faster than the times already noted in the rankings. Video proof was required and I provided it.

Pretty sure those old QuickTime videos are lingering around on the interwebz somewhere.

One day I came back home from my Uncles place. My whole family was sitting in the living room watching the television. For some reason it was showing the Mario 64 entry screen. I did not know what was going on at first. I just thought it was a new Nintendo 64 commercial or something. But than my dad moved one of the curtains near the window and there was a Nintendo 64 behind it. My very own Nintendo 64. Only one game though but that did not make me less excited. I was so happy I started playing right away and finished Mario 64 very fast. I think a few months later Zelda: Ocarina of Time was released. I got that one as well and finished it within a week. I remember actually crying during the ending of that game. It was so good. (yeh I have feelings, big surprise?) Zelda is in my opinion still the best game up to date. Not because of its replay value but mostly because of the story line and the way the game manages to suck you into the story.

My biggest miss-purchase has to be a game called “Glover” it seemed so fun to me. But when I purchased it I found it that the control were akward and the game was just too hard. It was a stupid game.

One of the bigger events during that period was the first meeting with other Goldeneye players Steven Zwartjes and Patrick Wessels. They came all the way from Rotterdam and Dordrecht to meet up with me and my uncle to play some video games. I was quite impressed with their skill in the games we had been playing for so long. I remember Steven playing some Mario Kart for us and getting a sub 2’00”00 on Luigi Raceway the first try. I do not remeber exactly how the Goldeneye games went but I think it was pretty equal. I remember Patrick showing me how to play Control for time trial. Steven and my oldest sister Cindy really hit it off during that time as well. Steven was staying over almost every weekend and we would be playing video games together. It was fun.

During that same period I attended an education in a “big city”. It was an education on the subject of computer maintenance. I had a developed a big interest for computers back then and it was quite a lot of fun during that education. I made a lot of new friends who were all deeply involved with Metal music. Up untill that time I had not aquired a music taste to call my own but I really liked what those guys were listening too.

After I finished up my education on the subject of computer maintenance I decided to do what all my friends were doing, keep studying the subject of computer maintenance. I did some research on the subject and decided that it was something I could get interested in. I applied to the education called Informatics (Comptuer Science) and got accepted. After the first year I decided that it was not something I would like to work with later in my life and I dropped out after succesfully finishing the first year. When I look back on it right now it would have been better if I had just sucked it up and finished it.

After I dropped out I got a call center job at a company called “KPN”. I got a short training and I worked about 1.5 years for them. I was an excellent problem solver and was quickly promoted to somebody who monitors other peoples calls and instructs them on how to improve their call time and solutions they provided. However I did not enjoy the work itself. It was very stressfull and I did not like not being able to solve problems on my own just because I did not have acces to a program. I was not a big fan of procedures and in my opinion we should be doing everything possible to help our customers.

This is also the time I met my current girlfriend Johanna. We met in a game called World of Warcraft and I went to Sweden every know and then to see her.

A bit later I decided I wanted to do an education on the field of Telematics in a town called Enschede. The first year prelimenary diploma I had gotten from Informatics. I had spoken to a few professors at the University of Enschede and they all advised me to not start with it because I was lacking severely in the mathamatical background. In the end it turned out he was right. I could not keep up and was forced to drop before the first year was over.

I got another call center job. This time I was going to be working for Logitech and was asked to help customers in english and dutch. Which greartly improved my vocal english skills. After working there for about 6 months Johanna and me decided that we could move in together. I moved to Sweden and have been living there ever since.

Outside of gaming Eise likes to spend time with his girlfriend, watch movies and jog.

At the moment I am learning Swedish and looking for jobs in Sweden. I am hoping to start another education soon. As you can see a lot of stupid mistakes in my life. Some stupid decisions I wish I had never made but it is hard to revert things that have already happened. If I had not done all of those things I probably would not have ended up with my lovely girlfriend right now.

David Clemens and Eise Smit

Eise Smit was one of the first to join the The Elite, as an existing member of Goldeneye Extreme - the then Goldeneye World Rankings page run by Wes McKinney.

History

Born 5th of September, 1984 in Oosternieland, the Netherlands. He has two younger sisters and a younger brother.

1.2 Control Style

Eise is credited with being the first person to bring the effectiveness of the 1.2 Control Style to the attention of the community. This occurred soon after he first joined Goldeneye Extreme, as a consequence of his particularly good times (Surface 1 Agent 1:08, Caverns Agent 1:06, Bunker 1 Secret Agent 0:28) leading Wes to believe Eise was lying - because it was unheard of for such a new player to get times like that.

Eise explained that he used "Turok style" controls, which meant 1.2 control style allowing for faster turning and no loss of speed. People were initially very skeptical, reluctant to try 1.2 because they had been playing 1.1 style from the beginning, with and without Cruise Control, and the switch was too big for them. It wasn't until after SnapDragon proved 1.2 was faster and Bryan Bosshardt joined and began to dominate the rankings that many people felt the need to change to keep up.

Gaming Achievements

Eise himself was ranked as high as 9th in the Elite Goldeneye World Rankings. He was also known for being exceptionally good at the Train locks, holding the fastest locks finish for a considerable time. He is also very good at Multiplayer.

In addition to Goldeneye, Eise was a very good Mario Kart 64 player, ranking inside the World Top 100 and owning a Legend D time. He also had many great times on Wave Race 64.

Community meetings

Eise attented the 2009 Goldeneye meeting held in Borås, Sweden, together with Ilari Pekkala, Trent Hovis, Henning Blom, Patrik Nilsson, Marc Rützou, Axel Zakrisson and some of Ilari's friends. He went on to take the Goldeneye tournament by beating Patrik Nilsson in the semi-final and Henning Blom in the final.

In 2011, the current Goldeneye champion David Clemens and Canadian top 20 ranked Alex Anderson decided to take a holiday trip to Sweden together to meet up with some of the Swedish Elite core. Almost all the people from the 2009 meeting were also present at this meeting. David Clemens went on to the take the entire tournament, Patrik Nilsson took second place, Ilari Pekkala third place and last and most certaintly least, Eise Smit clutched a fourth place.

Eise has also invited several Swedish members of the The_Elite to his house for some Goldeneye action. Among those eliters are Ilari Pekkala, Henning Blom, Patrik Nilsson, Axel Zakrisson and Adrian Axelsson.

Outside Gaming

Outside of gaming Eise likes to spend time with his girlfriend, watch movies and jog.

He doesn't like Jim !
