Steven Gutierrez
Steven 'Shorty' Gutierrez is a Mario Kart 64 player, specialising in Shortcuts. He is the older brother of Jeffrey Gutierrez.
Steven joined the kart community in January 2003. By the end of the year, he was 10th in SC and 42nd in Non-SC. He accelerated his performance in 2004, climbing higher in Non-SC, but his claim to fame was dethroning Alex Penev from the top of the Shortcut ladder. Alex ceased his hibernation to defend the title briefly, but Steven's persistance won out. Some say that he was lucky, some that he had too much time on his hands, while others respect his domination across the board, toppling records in some of the most overplayed circuits, such as Mario Raceway. He later retired, and has since slipped to 33rd in Non-SC. His SC position is still quite high, at 4th in the world.
Apart from kart, Steven is remembered for his strange and sometimes annoying AIM conversations and forum posts, much like his little brother. In his final year, Steven improved his writing/posting style, became a top karter, a helpful forum member, and MK64 staff member (he updated the Player's List for some time). Steven is the epitome of a rough-and-tumble, knockabout, annoying kid, who wisened up and transformed into a better man, thanks to the careful nurturing of the kart community. *sniffle*
But aside from all that nonsense, Shorty is also one of the main antagonists of the Kart = Chicks theory, boldly claiming that a lot more knocks were heard on his door after his retirement. A fitting end to a happy story.
