Start in left strafe, and quickly switch to right as soon as you're around the table. Start your slap as soon as possible and move quickly after slapping the guard, switching to left strafe, opening the door and pulling out the Dostovei at the same time, and exiting in right strafe. Go down the hall without getting stuck on the crates. Go up the stairs in right strafe. Halfway up, begin firing the Dostovei, and fire all eight bullets. Strafe past the Klobb guard and hope that when the Soviet guard opens the door for you, he isn't in the way.

Stay in right strafe as you go through and quickly turn towards the double doors. If you're lucky, you'll get a boost here (Bryan does in that video right there). Open the doors continuing in right strafe. This is where so many runs of mine get screwed. You've gotta get through so as to not get stuck on the double doors when turning right, but not too far or you'll hit the bookcase. You wanna go in between the two. You also want to use lookdown in this area; it helps a lot. Turn left after passing the end of the first bookcase. Aim for an angle so that you miss all the bookcases and just barely miss the corner of the railing.

== Objectives ==

Open Natalya's door and immediately switch to left strafe. Hopefully Natalya will see you. Stay in left strafe all the way back through the double doors. Strafe next to the railing (don't rub against it). As soon as you can see the glass, stop strafing (just run normally), fire frantically until the glass is destroyed, then strafe out. Once again, if you're lucky, you'll get boosted during the exit.

Also you may get boosted here and get everything fucked up but you know what to do if that

happens. Get through all bookcases nice with no stucks and open Nat's door and hope the bitch

back to right-strafe and get a good line to the other double door, aim for its rightside. Try to open

While Ghost Door usually refers to the aforementioned door before Mishkin, there are actually other instances of it. A few years ago I explained one of these, seen in [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4PWV9L3-qDo Ace's DLTK 1:06].
as possible when the railing ends. Once down the stairs change to left-strafe so you face the wall.

You want to run with about a 5% angle when facing the wall so you get a good line to

the door. This door is easy, just press B when you know you can open it and get past it, change to

right-strafe to get through and back to left. Try to have Bond back to the wall here and open the far

door from some distance so you dont get stuck on it. Now once past that door turn left and open the

famous Mishkin door on its leftside, try to get through it as quickly as possible. Once you have made

it this far with good speed and no stucks 0:55 is pretty much yours, maybe even 0:54. If you do miss open

the door your pauseout should say 21 if you had 55 pace up to this part.

Walk over to Mishkin so you start the conversation with him, warp him or whatever and strafe him
+
What happens in this case is that the patrolling guard collides with Natalya, which causes him to load, which in turn can make him open the nearby door leading to the window. However, despite knowing this, it still wasn't obvious how the door before Mishkin could open. The main difference is that the door opens right in front of the player, so you'd expect to see the guard somewhere nearby. A reasonable assumption would be that the guard gets stuck behind the door, and while this is indeed possible and might explain some of these occurences, it doesn't explain Ryan Koch's video, since he almost immediately looks back.

just to spite you. Sometimes guards won't appear at all so use your Dostovei for the

"beep" sound leave the safe in right-strafe hoping you got the FR from the safe (which you usually get

if you opened it). Get out of the room and take a nice turn around the box and change to

In Ryan Koch's video, we can hear a door opening shortly after the ghost door, and as he looks outside, we can see what appears to be an open door to the big room. Since the guard is running (and started outside the ghost door), and Ryan waited a few secs before looking outside, he was simply too slow to actually spot him.

Probably one of the three easiest LTK levels to beat. Just take it safe and don't make too much noise and you have nothing to worry about. Speedrunning the level isn't very hard either. A time around one minute shouldn't be very hard at all if you are an experienced player with SA/00A PRs better than 1:00. The current record of 0:55 is probably maxed and must therefore be considered one of the best LTK records.

Archives is not only easy on the LTK mode, it's one of the easiest DLTK levels, too. If the first room was table-less, the start would probably be quite tricky. As it is now, grab the PP7 and ammo on the table, crouch and take cover behind the table and shoot 5 bullets on the white drawers. Doing that, both guards in the first room will hopefully die from the explosion. Sometimes they don't, and sometimes one of them will kill you even if you're crouching. It's all luck and dependable on the guards animations. Just play it until both die (shouldn't take very long). Also, don't fire the 5 bullets too quickly or you will attract guards from outside the first room.

Mishkin

Mishkin starts his speeches when you're within 30 units of him. The objective completes 30s after talking to him, which is 5s after Bond says "Yes, it proves that Janus was involved in the Severnaya incident.". Mishkin stops talking if you are 40 units or more away from him. [1]

Guards

There are 7 patrolling guards. One of them (nearest to the start) is the messenger who has slightly complicated AI if you wait in the room for the conversation to finish. [2]

The two interrogation guards become normal after they're triggered to attack.

Ghost Door

Ghost door refers to the phenomenon that the second to last door before Mishkin on Archives can open seemingly by itself, right in front of the player, with no guards nearby[3]. For more background and example videos (most notably, Ryan Koch's video), see this speedlore episode (starting around 1:32:33).

While Ghost Door usually refers to the aforementioned door before Mishkin, there are actually other instances of it. A few years ago I explained one of these, seen in Ace's DLTK 1:06.

So how could this possibly be? Well... *drumroll*

As it turns out, it was a guard after all. The reason we couldn't see him was because he opened the door from outside. This seems strange, given that the door isn't on his path, but when you think about it, the same thing happened in the Ghost Door #3 video above. The moment the guard loads, for some reason they can open (seemingly) any nearby door. Some reverse-engineering by Whiteted suggests this might be a 1/10 phenomenon, but more runs are needed to verify this. With all this information, we can know put together the whole chain of events:

  1. In the beginning of the level, we lure a guard to get the 2nd door open, this noise is also likely to alert the guard patrolling around Mishkin's room who will be out in the courtyard (though if you watch cinema this might differ).
  2. When we enter the room with the ghost door, the guard is still unloaded, and has just "warped" through the ghost door and is now headed towards the big room. However, since unloaded guards don't actually move, but rather "teleport" whenever they finish a segment, his real body is essentially standing still outside the ghost door.
  3. As the player turns toward the ghost door, the guard is loaded, and since the door is nearby, there's a small chance he will open it. Since he still hasn't seen Bond, he continues running toward big room in pursuit, meaning any left-strafing player will fail to notice him (and he will fail to notice them since he's facing the opposite direction).

So there you go. Mystery solved.
