So it still does hold a lot of merit. No rankings will satisfy everyone's opinion. The Goldeneye MVP Rankings exist to reward the achievements of those whose times are Most Valuable in lowering The Elite's combined "total time" for Goldeneye by holding untied world records. For these rankings, every second a player's untied WR is ahead of the next best time on the level counts towards his MVP Total. Examples:
- Runway A :22, next best time is also Runway A :22 = 0 MVP seconds
- Runway 00 :36, next best time is Runway 00 :37 = 1 MVP second

Criticism
These rankings are criticized among the Goldeneye elite since they fail to take into respect the strength of a World Record. For example, Jungle A 51 is a very strong World Record, but is worth only 1 MVP second, whereas Frigate 1:08 and Bunker 1:04, weaker records, are worth 3 MVP seconds.
However, it is a completely objective ranking system and does show you who is contributing the most to lowering the total time, and thus encourages players to lower the total time objectively. So it still does hold a lot of merit. No rankings will satisfy everyone's opinion. The-Elite rankings don't take into account the strength of a WR either.

It is important to note that the people on these ranks probably achieved their untieds with the help of strategic developments from other players who may or may not be on the MVP ranks or even in the elite for that matter. It is also worth noting that the people on this ranks, regardless of their lack of ability to come up with the strategy to attain the Untied World Record, still had enough skill to actually get it, unlike the people who came up with the strategy in the first place.
