TG has arguably the largest manifest of any web videogame rankings in that it technically encompasses every method of playing every game in existence. However, in practice, TG is far from the "official authority" on many of these games; it has always remained largely focused on classic arcade games (as it has since day one) rather than modern games. In addition, its proof requirements are generally extremely high relative to other sites, and it takes a long time between updates. Modern console records listed on TG are generally likely to be very out of date. However Twin Galaxies is the only organization officially recognized by the Guinness Book of Records and is considered the authority on highscores in old arcade games.

As video games evolved past the inclusion of scoring systems, previous owners of Twin Galaxies struggled to accommodate new modes and methods of gameplay, such as [[speedrunning]]. Early sets of rules were created "Fastest Completion," but many of these rules were created without discussion or input from a community. Twin Galaxies' rules for fastest completion generally differ from those set by speedrunning communities, as TG initially refused to accept runs involving glitches. However, the recent ownership has drastically overhauled the website and has implemented new systems which will accommodate speedruns within the database.
