Getting 1.73 shouldn't be too much trouble at all. It is finding the extra 0.02 that can be difficult. From the start you should aim to leave the goal so that the top of the stick comes as close as possible to hitting the top wall. The keep moving to the right until just before the goal, and then move upwards just a little bit. To get 1.71 you need to move upwards just the tiniest amount.
