For adventure mode--on level 1 go forward until you see the first koopa.  Get him into his shell and pick him up and throw him at his buddies.  They will bash each other back and forth between the pipe and the cliff increasing your damage to max.  You can leave at around the 3:15 mark if you keep damaging those shells.  Then at the end of the level--continue and repeat a few times to get around a million points.
