Metal Gear Solid is a Stealth TPS released in September of 1998 by Konami for the Sony Playstation. It was later remade as Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes for the GameCube. The series continued with Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty.

The Speed Demos Archive hosts Metal Gear Solid competition. The current proven World Record for a complete-game MGS speedrun on Extreme difficulty is 1 hour and 54 minutes, achieved by Matt "Solid Snake" Powell on December 8th, 2005. The fastest Extreme run using the European version of MGS is 1 hour and 59 minutes, single segment, by Aurélien Pilet.
