Even though he is naturally very competitive, Michael is never selfish about sharing strategies, as he considers it important to improve the overall strength of times in the game, not just his own.  He often explains strategies to people through AIM (mjf345) or MSN (mjf345_at_hotmail_dot_com), and sometimes posts detailed strategies on the forum for no reason other than because he feels like it.  In all 5 Karts he's played, he's had a very good history of providing plenty of video proof.

Michael is among the best in MK64 and MKDS, and not quite as good but still pretty good in SMK, MKDD, and MKSC, and has thereby earned the title of best all-round karter. He lost his title for a short time when MKSC was added to the rankings, and was passed by Sami Cetin, but then reclaimed his title when he started playing MKSC (August 2006) to get some extra points.  He is doing well so far in MKSC, with a rank of 6th and several world records.

After Michael stopped playing MKSC, he slowed down in MKDS and eventually quit.  Recently the only MKDS he has been competing in is Non-MT, in which he currently holds more than 50 WRs.  Michael is a former world champion in MKDS, and held the title continuously for the first 99 days after the game's release, a feat never before accomplished in any Kart.  At one time he even held all 64 WRs at once.  He finally lost his title to Miguel Rodriguez for awhile, and then eventually reclaimed the title for 2 weeks in June before losing it for good to Thomas Bolton.  Since then he has fallen all the way to 13th.

In August 2006, Michael created and updated an MKDS Wifi ranking site, where people could play rated Wifi games and receive a rating, based on a rating system similar to the one used in chess.  It was fun for a short time, but didn't hold peoples' interest for long, so the idea was given up a few weeks later.  Surprisingly, Michael didn't do very well in these rankings, mostly due to his n00bish item skills; he was much worse at Wifi than he was at time trialsMichael is good at mission mode, however, and is currently ranked 1st in missions on Cyberscore.

Michael joined the MK64 site in April 2003.  It was the first Mario Kart game that Michael competed in, and the game he considers himself best at.  In 2005 he drove his first world record by landing the Rainbow Road spiral shortcut 3/3 with BowserIn 2005 he also also drove a world record in Yoshi Valley non-shortcut fastlap, which stood for 7 years. In late 2005, he peaked at #5 non-shortcut and #9 shortcut.

The Kart Michael has spent the most time on and considers himself most skilled at is Mario Kart 64, even though he is ranked lower in this game than he is in MKDS.  He holds one world record, for Yoshi Valley fastlap (video).  He is also the first person to land the Rainbow Road spiral shortcut on all 3 laps, and he discovered a new strategy that saves .1 in Frappe Snowland.  He is currently ranked 7th in non-shortcut, 11th in shortcut, and 3rd in universal.

Michael played Super Mario Kart for 2-3 months in late 2005.  He didn't get near the top before retiring, but he did manage to reach God (by the old standards).  He also had a former WR in KB1 trick flap.  He is currently ranked 34th.

Michael played Mario Kart: Double Dash!! in the game's early history and peaked at 5th place, at one time holding the Mushroom City WRs.  He is currently ranked 100th.  Michael is not happy that soon he'll be kicked out of the top 100, and will most likely return to MKDD after he's done with MKSC.

Michael Fried is a Mario Kart player who competes in all 8 games, and is the former Combined Mario Kart champion. He is an active poster on the Mario Kart forum and occasionally hangs out in the IRC channel.

Site Contributions

Michael has worked on several Kart-related projects:

Mario Kart 64

Michael joined the MK64 site in April 2003. It was the first Mario Kart game that Michael competed in, and the game he considers himself best at. In 2005 he drove his first world record by landing the Rainbow Road spiral shortcut 3/3 with Bowser. In 2005 he also also drove a world record in Yoshi Valley non-shortcut fastlap, which stood for 7 years. In late 2005, he peaked at #5 non-shortcut and #9 shortcut.

Mario Kart: Double Dash!!

Michael joined the MKDD site a few weeks after the game's release. He peaked at #5, and at one time held the Mushroom City world records.

Super Mario Kart

SMK was the first Mario Kart game that Michael played, but he did not join the SMK site until September 2005. In early 2008 he peaked at #20 NBT (NTSC) and #14 non-NBT (NTSC). He has held all 10 trick fastlap NTSC world records (not including MC2 Infinite Boost), and still holds some of them.

Mario Kart DS

Michael joined the MKDS site shortly after the game's release, immediately becoming world champion and dominating time trial mode for the first few months, at one time holding all 64 world records simultaneously. During this time he created the non-PRB standards. He held the title for 99 days, until losing it to Miguel Rodriguez. A few months later he regained the title for 2 weeks before losing it to Thomas Bolton. Sometime later he retired. He also competed in Non-MT and in mission mode, where he held many world records. He occasionally played wifi, but he preferred time trials. He created a clan and a Wifi ratings site which are no longer active.

Mario Kart Super Circuit

Michael joined the MKSC site in August 2006, shortly after MKSC was added to the combined MK rankings, which allowed him to regained the #1 spot from Sami Cetin. In mid 2007, he peaked at #5. He held several world records. He has not modified his GBA SP, so his PRs are non-ZZMT.

Mario Kart Wii

Michael joined the site shortly after the North American release. He started out behind but eventually caught up with Europe. He reached the #1 spot in July 2008, held it for 3 days, lost it briefly, and held it for another 21 days before losing it again.

Mario Kart 7 & 8

Michael peaked at #2 in MK7, where his most notable achievement was an early but long-lasting Luigi Raceway world record. He peaked somewhere in the top 10 in MK8.

Other Hobbies

Michael's favorite video game series is The Legend of Zelda (his favorite is A Link to the Past). He also likes the Super Mario series and the Donkey Kong Country series, among others. He has held world records in DKC (906 Rambi bonus game) and DKC3 (53.20 Riverside Race).

Michael also likes to watch movies.
