Jim "Jimbo" Barrett (born March 17, 1988, in Green Bay, Wisconsin) is one of the most arrogant, cocky gamers around the Goldeneye and Mario Kart 64 forums. He immediately gained infamy at the start of his career due to his arrogance and claiming of obviously fake times, such as Caverns Agent 1:02 at age 13. After being banned from The Elite in mid 2002, Jimbo cleaned up his act, and in July 2003 achieved Bunker 1 00A 1:09 (then tying a Bosshardt-set untied of 2 seconds), marking the beginning of a marvelous Goldeneye career. In February 2004, he reached the podium of GoldenEye 007 and stayed there for exactly one year. Although Jim has slowed down dramatically from his glory days, he is still currently PRing (as of June 1, 2010); and his accomplishments include (but are not limited to):
- Formerly highest ranked player without using dot-on-screen. (title now held by Goose)
- Still being ranked in the top 20 out of 250+ in all 8 possible rankings.
- 3 official career untied world records. (5 unofficial)
- Holding a podium position in Goldeneye for a full calendar year. (February 2004 to February 2005)
- Successfully completing the legendary cinnamon challenge in front of a prolific crowd and having it recorded in Virginia. (August 2007 and August 2009)
- Being the first person to achieve a world record in any game at a Virginia meet. (Archives Agent 0:16)
- Sparking quite possibly the biggest proof controversy the GE elite has ever seen. (Archives Agent 0:16, see below)
- Placing 8th in the 2007 Mario Kart 64 tournament, (8th of 16) and 1st in the 2007 Goldeneye tournament. (1st of 16)
- Placing 3rd in the 2008 Mario Kart 64 tournament, (3rd of 24) and 4th in the 2008 Goldeneye tournement. (4th of 16)
- Placing 3rd in the 2009 Mario Kart 64 tournament, (3rd of 16) and 3rd in the 2009 Goldeneye tournament. (3rd of 16, finals appearance)
- Placing 1st in the 2009 Elite Summer Contest Predictions Standings. (1st of 41)
Jim resides in Green Bay Wisconsin, has a full time job, and lives alone. Jim checks the elite boards every day, visits the elite chat nightly, and sometimes visits Ngamer. In December 2006, Jim was involved in one of the great pioneering wonders of the elite, the Grand National Championship! Notably, Jimbo has attended every major meet held since 2007, including all Virginia meets, the Michigan 2009 meet, the Florida 2010 meet, and the Michigan 2010 meet.
Reasons why Jimbo is pretty cool:
- Jimbo is a longtime member of the elite, going back to as early as December 2001.
- Jimbo managed to lose a ton of weight by actually sticking to a real diet.
- Jimbo works full time and leads a responsible, clean life.
- Pretty funny guy, good interests, gets along with the elite well.
- Jimbo is one of the most experienced and prolific drummers around.
- Jimbo is also a damn good Mario Kart 64 player.
- Making final four appearances in both Goldeneye and Mario Kart 64 in back to back years (2008 and 2009).
- Jimbo is one of the most highly knowledgeable NFL and NASCAR fans around, being a pro/lucky sports bettor and avid Green Bay Packers fan.
Reasons why Jimbo sucks and/or can get annoying:
- Thinks he's the greatest Goldeneye multiplayer in the world, and never admits to being worse at a video game.
- Thinks people care that he has big biceps.
- Owns not one, but TWO station wagons and thinks they are the greatest car design in history.
- Is a level 37 Sage poster on GameFAQs.com.
- Has an irrational, unhealthy, and outrageous obsession with every aspect of RMS Titanic.
- Is the only eliter to publicly post a nude photo of himself.
- Has the least-variational diet in the elite, eating mostly the same things every single day since he was a small child.
Weight Loss August 2007 to May 2008
Jim Barrett has always been the token fat ass for many years. Peaking at 270 lbs, Jim decided to start a diet at his new active job in August 2006. The diet quickly disappeared but Jim did remain active, losing 10 lbs over the next year to August 2007. During that month, Jim restarted his diet and stuck to it, and progressively shed the weight that had been with him for so long. His target weight was 220 lbs, marking a total loss of 50 lbs, which by itself would be a serious accomplishment. 220 came easy for Jim, so he lowered it to a number he's always wanted to attain, 199. As of May 2008, Jim reached that mark and has kept it off ever since. Some were startled to know that Jim Barrett actually has a neck and some basic muscle mass, which were previously hidden under the layers of fat that had covered Jim prior. As of June 28, 2009, Jimbo has kept to a steady exercise routine of weightlifting and cardio exercises when not at work; as a result Jim seems to look like a normal human being instead of resembling the common toothpick.
Archives Agent 0:16 Controversy
On August 17, 2008, Jimbo had finally achieved the world record of 0:16 on Archives A after many hours of playing in Bumpass VA. Most, if not everyone at the meet had seen Jimbo play and fail a few 0:16s prior to the completed run that night. Jimbo knowingly played without taping, as most were convinced that this world record would not require video proof is a proof moderator was present. When 0:16 occured, many were watching (including Jon Barber) and had verified that the run was legit and met all elite requirements. (no cheating devices, no cheats, etc). Many of the attendees of Jimbo's session were world-known players such as Patrik Nilsson, Eddie Lovins, Jon Barber, Josh Layne, etc. When the news had gotten to the Goldeneye rankings moderators that 0:16 was not captured on tape, a split was created between the moderators (such as Henning Blom, and Wouter Jansen) vs the rest of the elite who believed 0:16 was fine as-is, or were OK with picture proof that was provided by Jimbo. (2 images exist, one of flash ON, and one of flash OFF to show the player surroundings). 0:16 was ultimately accepted, but only for a short period, as Jimbo failed to provide a taped 0:16 within the month it was shown on the rankings; resulting in his Archives A time to be back-rolled to 0:17.
On December 15, 2008, Jim's 0:16 was finally added to the Goldeneye Elite rankings after Jon Barber made the final decision as administrator to allow the time. The addition of the time has split the community, and as a result, former updater Wouter Jansen has resigned as rankings updater in favor of Tyler "Thiradell" Wishall.
