The trick is not applicable to any other levels e.g. Egypt. In the endings of those levels you want as low lag as possible.

To analyze if the trick was successful or not, you can check for the following signs (This assumes you only press Start once)<ref>{{cite web | url=https://forums.the-elite.net/index.php?topic=854.msg408149#msg408149|title=the-elite forum post "Post Your Best Legit (And Semi-Legit) Fails Here!"|author=Wyst3r|access-date=July 21, 2021}}</ref>:

# A lag spike must be noticeable. (if not, you paused too late)

# Your angle must be identical before and after the lag spike. (if not, you paused too early)

In order to check #2, you should always use a lot of (or full) lookdown when doing this trick. To see why, imagine if your angle was exactly -40 before the pause (this is the angle the game takes you to during the pause animation). In this case, your angle wouldn't change at all when pausing, and you'd be completely unable to tell if the trick was successful or not. Lookdown also ensures that the platform below is visible on screen, which makes it easier (possible) to tell if your angle changed or not.

Also worth noting: The amount of time saved depends on how early you pause (since you're suspending the in-game timer in the state it was when you paused). For example, if you pause 1 frame before fadeout, you'll successfully do the trick but you will only save 1 frame. Pausing 20 frames before fadeout will save 20 frames if successful.
