Michael joined the MKDS site shortly after the game's release, immediately becoming world champion and completely dominating the game, at one time holding all 64 world records at once.  He held the title for 99 days, until losing it to [[Miguel Rodriguez]].  A few months later he regained the title for 2 weeks, before losing it for good to [[Thomas Bolton]].  Since then, he has fallen out of the top 20.  Michael also competed in [http://www.mariokart64.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1169541320 Non-MT], where he still holds many world records, and in [http://cyberscore.net/group-1506.php mission mode], where he used to hold many world records.  He occasionally played wifi, but he was not very good at it.

Michael joined the MKSC site in August 2006, shortly after MKSC was added to the [http://www.mariokart64.com/combinedranks/ combined MK rankings], in order to regain his #1 spot that he briefly lost to [[Sami Cetin]].  He is currently ranked #5.  He used to hold several world records, but has lost all of them except for RBC3 flap ([http://youtube.com/watch?v=CCT0I1H8pfU 12.85]).  He has not yet modified his GBA SP, so he will most likely return to MKSC someday to try out ZZMTing.

In August 2006, Michael created and updated an [http://z9.invisionfree.com/MKDSWifiRatings/index.php?act=idx MKDS Wifi ranking site], where people could play rated Wifi games and receive a rating, based on a rating system similar to the ELO system.  It was fun for a short time, but didn't hold peoples' interest for long, so the idea was given up a few weeks later.  Michael did poorly in these rankings, mostly due to his poor item skills; he was never known as much of a Wifi player, and did not spent much time practicing Wifi.

Despite never having been world champion, Michael's best Mario Kart is Mario Kart 64; he considers himself more skilled in this game than in MKDS.  He currently holds one world record, [[Yoshi Valley]] fastlap ([http://wrvids.com/Mario%20Kart/MK64/Fastest%20Available%20Vids/yv-2618-Fried.mpg video]).  He is also the first person to land the [[Rainbow Road (MK64)|Rainbow Road]] spiral shortcut on all 3 laps, and he discovered a new strategy that saves .1 in Frappe Snowland.  He is currently ranked 7th in non-shortcut (4th NTSC), 11th in shortcut, and 4th in [http://www.mariokart64.com/top100/universal.html universal].

Michael joined the site shortly after the North American release.  Because Europe got the game first, Michael started out behind, but he worked up to catch up with and eventually overtake his European rivals.  He reached the #1 spot in July 2008, and is still going.

Michael played Super Mario Kart for 2-3 months in late 2005.  He didn't get near the top before retiring, but he did manage to reach God (by the [http://www.geocities.com/MarioKart64Legend/ntscstan.htm old standards]).  He then returned to SMK in 2007, and is still playing it.  He is currently ranked 27th, and holds 6 trick flap world records ([http://wrvids.com/Mario%20Kart/SMK/Fastest%20Available%20Vids/Trick/ videos]).

Michael Fried's gaming is not limited to Mario Kart.  His favorite video game series is The Legend of Zelda series.  He also enjoys the Super Mario series and the [[Donkey Kong Country]] series, among others.  In Donkey Kong Country he holds the Rambi bonus game world record ([http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uPfTn2N2tfw 906]), and in Donkey Kong Country 3 he holds the Riverside Race world record ([http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JNtTjiEFyOg 53.20]).

Michael is very well known on the Mario Kart forum.  Since joining in 2003, he has consistently been one of the most active posters, and is now 2nd only to [[Jeffrey Gutierrez]] in post count.  He rarely goes a day without visiting the forum, and he reads and posts in every section.

Outside of gaming, Michael also enjoys watching movies.  His favorite directors are Alfred Hitchcock, Billy Wilder, Christopher Nolan, and Hayao Miyazaki.

 

 

In addition to Mario Kart games, Michael also plays several other games.  His favorite video game series is The Legend of Zelda series.  He has competed for fast times and high scores in various games, including but not limited to [[The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time]], [[Diddy Kong Racing]], the [[Donkey Kong Country]] series, and various online flash games.

 

Michael considers having fun to be a very important part of life.  He takes Kart more seriously than most people and often tries to encourage people to kart more.  He strongly disagrees with people who say that video games are a waste of time.  One of his personal quotes is "There's no such thing as too much Mario Kart."
